Big Redfish on the new lure

Howdie peeps, Here is to wishing you had a very Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year with monster trout and hungry Redfish around every bend of the marsh waiting to inhale your Brown Lure of choice. Now on to the fishing report.

Beckie and I hit the water on Friday 12-22-06 at 11 am.

Conditions: temp was mid to upper 60's, water clarity was to about 14".

We found the fish to be finicky with a very subtle bite that you had to be quick on the hookset with. The first couple of hours we had each picked up a couple of small 15"-17" trout on the new Brown Lures prototype bait. Beckie was throwing it in the Electric Chicken color and I was throwing Pearl/Chart. Watch for these baits when they are realesed because they flat out work. plain and simple.

We moved around and fished every portion of the water column to find the most success in about 3'-4' of water. I moved to spot that held deeper mud and jumped out to wade. I quickly picked up two very small trout and on the third cast into the same spot all hell broke loose.

I counted the lure down to about 3' and twitched the bait. The strike was awesome and the fish came to the top thrashing just like a trout does. With all the water being thrown around I couldnt tell what it was but was seeing visions of a trophy trout. After a few nervous minutes of fighting the fish I knew it was a Redfish, and a big one. My nerves calmed down once I discovered it was a Red and not the new State Record Trout. Beckie paddled over and started capturing the fight on camera. After a long fight I finally wrapped my hands around the beast. I waded up to the muddy shoreline and measured the monster. It was 39" without the tail pinched and was very fat. We did a quick couple of pics and I eased the gorgeous fish into the water ensuring it was ready for the release. The fish swam off to fight another day. The new lure has already nailed some great trout up to 25" and now has a nearly 40" Redfish to its name.

Saturday 12-23-06

I took my Brother in Law to a nice spot in upper Galveston Bay.

We threw Brown Lure small mullet and small shrimp. Pearl/Chart was again the hot color of the day. My BIL caught his first slam with a barely keeper Flounder, 17" trout, and 23" red. We had numerous small trout to 17". I will post pics from Saturday later. For now, here are a couple of pics of the big Red.
